Step 1 image1Disconnect spark plug wire. If replacing old rope, measure and cut new rope to same length as the old. Tie a knot in the end of the rope and heat-seal end to prevent loosening. (If only replacing new handle on existing rope, tie a knot in current rope near the old handle & then cut-off old handle).

Step 2 image2Push the knot down through the “+” on the inside of the handle. Pull the rope completely down through the slot until it is tightly seated inside the handle. (If not replacing rope, skip to 4).

Step 3 image3Remove the recoil housing from engine. Rewind starter spring counterclockwise until tight. Install rope through the eyelet, tie a knot, and pull tight. (Consult your owner’s manual)

4Reconnect spark plug wire.
